The General Prosecution has presented Parliament with the request to arrest former Minister of Interior Affairs Saimir Tahiri.
Sources within the Prosecution stated that the former minister is under accusation of membership of criminal organization.
According to the Albanian law, deputies may be investigated by the Prosecution, but their arrest must be approved by Parliament.
In a press statement earlier this week, Tahiri had already declared that he would not rely on his parliamentary immunity:
Without discussion I wouldn’t ever want to be in this position today without wanting to, but I immediately ask the Prosecution myself personally and with full willingness without profiting from any type of parliamentary and political immunity that everything about my work […] is investigated and verified.
As the Parliament is today on holiday, it is not yet certain when the session to discuss the request of the Prosecution will be held.
