The Tirana Prosecution Office has decided to dismiss a report by the Democratic Party (PD) requesting investigations into Danish architect Bjarke Ingels for his alleged illegal involvement in the National Theater project.
The decision to dismiss the request was made by prosecutor Saimir Hysa on November 11, 2019, though it was only made public now.
In October 2019, PD asked the prosecution office to open investigations into Bjarke Ingels, accusing him of passive corruption, aiding illegal construction, and pressuring people in public office during his involvement with the new National Theatre project.
The controversial project intends the demolition of the current National Theatre building, in order to grant private construction company Fusha shpk the public land through a Special Law.
The Democratic Party also asked the Prosecution Office to suspend the National Theatre project. However, according to the prosecutor, there isn’t sufficient evidence to bring Ingels to court. Furthermore, the prosecutor claimed that suspending the National Theatre project falls outside the Prosecution Office’s jurisdiction.
Last week, prosecutors also exonerated Tirana Municipality officials, who were under investigation after Fusha shpk payed for their hotel stay in Barcelona.
