In a meeting with socialist youth activists from FRESSh, Prime Minister Edi Rama for the first time admitted publicly that politicians profited from the corrupted judicial system:
Our political system has been erected for years upon a silent agreement but which has appeared in the open for years between politicians that elect the judges and the judges that close the case of the politicians and that’s why politicians have never been ready to start with the judicial reform, because it’s like you go in and cut the branch you’re sitting on. We went in and did it. And that’s when the coalition [with the LSI] started to crack.
Considering the fact the Prime Minister Rama himself has been part of this “silent agreement” for nearly 20 years, and he and politicians around him continue to profit from it, this raises the important question whether the three vetting institutions, elected by a consensual vote on Saturday, will actually be able to clean up the judicial system.
And if there is this “silent agreement,” should not the General Prosecutor launch an immediate investigation into this matter?
