Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed the fulfilment of conditions imposed on Albania by the European Council before it sits in the first inter-governmental conference (IGC), which marks the practical start of EU accession talks.
The two leaders’ virtual meeting comes about a week after the European Commission released a positive progress report on Albania.
Rama announced the meeting on his social media on Monday. He said they discussed the following topics:
- The EU’s Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans;
- Fostering the Mini-Schengen initiative;
- Albania’s progress since the European Council’s decision to open accession talks;
- The conditions that remain to be met before the first IGC;
- Albania’s OSCE Chairmanship.
Rama gave no further information on the content of talks.
