In his weekly monologue, Prime Minister Edi Rama again called upon Albanian citizens to grant him a majority in Parliament during the upcoming elections. His slogan “We want our own hands on the steering wheel of government” has now turned into his main message, as polls suggest he may not be able to arrive at a majority.
Rama emphasized his request by stating that only an autocratic rule of a single party could bring the country forward, and presumably closer to the EU:
Don’t leave us in the hands of other parties. To do more we don’t need to share the government with the others. […] Whom will you elect Prime Minister? Luli [Basha], Petrit [Vasili], Shpëtim [Idrizi], or Ben [Blushi]… none of those either can become Prime Minister or does the work that’s needed to register your property but does the opposite.
As regards the persistent rumors that the PS would form a broad coalition with the PD after the elections, he declared:
Don’t listen to the fairy-tales of the political and media village about the pre-decided co-government with the PD or a conspiracy against the LSI and small parties. There is no plan about a coalition and there no conspiracy.
Prime Minister Rama also didn’t fail to mention his favorite football club, Juventus, which he has often compared to the Socialist Party, it being the winner of any competition.
However, after Juventus lost the UEFA cup, Rama failed to draw the same parallel:
Juventus lost but none of the Juventus supporters lost anything. But the viewers from Madrid didn’t win anything more than we did. But there’s nothing you can do because that’s football. Today is a new day, the spectacle is over.
