Prime Minister Edi Rama said that within 2-3 months, many of those affected by the 26 November 2019 earthquake will be in new homes.
The earthquake struck not far from Durres, impacting most of Durres County, Tirana County, and Lezhe County. It killed 51 people and left tens of thousands homeless.
Rama said that the reconstruction progress is going very well and that residents of Shijak, one of the areas most affected, will be in new homes by the New Year.
“The reconstruction programme is moving at a fast past and it resolves the problems of thousands of families. It also creates work for construction companies and makes jobs for a considerable number of individuals.”
He said that the 2021 budget will continue to address, as a priority, the consequences of the disaster and 28 billion ALL (EUR 225 million) will be taken from the 2021 budget for this purpose. Rama added that some families will continue to receive the rental bonus until they can be home in new apartments.
