Rinas Robbery, Tahiri: Bank and Private Security to Blame

In a declaration today Minister of Interior Affairs Saimir Tahiri has shifted the blame for the robbery yesterday near the Tirana International Airport in Rinas to BKT Bank and the security firm it hired.

During a promotion event in Elbasan of his initiative to hand in illegal weapons, he stated that if they had taken the right measures to ensure the right security conditions, the robbery wouldn’t have happened. According to Minister Tahiri, it is intolerable that banks move around such large sums of money without any security. Nevertheless, the Minister doesn’t put the blame on the private security guards, with the argument that they are only paid 20,000 lekë per month and cannot be expected to at like heroes.

As regards the actual police investigation into the robbery case, he stated that the police is working on it and does everything possible to clarify the case.

This robbery again shows the necessity to call for a safe Albania and proof that things need to be done urgently.

Two days ago, Minister Tahiri demanded from the owners of private security firms to take the necessary actions to improve the security conditions. He gave the companies one month to solve the problem, promising that the month wage of a private security guard would not be below 33,000 lekë.
