The Justice for Justice Association has called statements made by the head of the IOM Genoveva Ruiz Calvera and Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi “inappropriate”.
Following their meeting this week, Calavera posted on Twitter that “unjust attacks [against the vetting process] must stop”
In a statement, the Association said that criticisms are not unfounded as one member of the KPA is on trial in the Special Court and one KPC member is under investigation in SPAK.
They added that:
“If these cases are considered as unjust attacks, then the message of Mr Varhelyi can be considered as flagrant interference in the exercise of functions of the judiciary, especially the structures created after the adoption of the Justice Reform.”
The association stressed that most members of vetting institutions do not meet the formal criteria, making IOM CEO Genoveva Ruiz Calavera responsible for their approval.
In fact, over 60% of judges that have passed through the vetting process have either been fired or resigned.
