On Monday, Serbia denied allegations of a plot to kill Dick Marty, a former Swiss prosecutor and politician.
In a statement by the Serbian secret service agency BIA published by Tanjug news agency, they announced they had complained to their Swiss colleagues today, two days after Swiss public broadcaster Radio Television Suisse (RTS) broke the news of a Serbian plot to kill the former Swiss member of the Council of Europe.
“In these difficult times, such claims unjustly inflict incalculable damage to Serbia and the reputation of BIA and its members, who are dedicated and professional in performing their working tasks exclusively in accordance with the law,” BIA stated.
Marty was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2010, when he presented a report alleging that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and its political leader Hashim Thaci had organized the killing of prisoners to remove and traffic their organs.
The shocking report broadcast by RTS last weekend argued that Serbian intelligence services had plotted to kill Marty in Switzerland in order to blame it on Kosovo, exactly at the convenient time when international media attention was on Thaci in late 2020, after he resigned to face charges of crimes against humanity which partly relied on the Marty report.
Marty has been practically a prisoner in his own house since then, under heavy police protection, after the Swiss intelligence services deemed the Serbian plot to kill him reliable. In his interview for the RTS, the former prosecutor alleged that Swiss authorities have been reluctant to pursue the matter internationally and to push Serbia to bring justice to the case.
The denial by the Serbian spy agency follows government-controlled media reports alleging the plot to kill Dick Marty was staged by the British intelligence service MI6 in order to falsely blame it on Belgrade.
