Serbia Denies Suspending Derecognition Campaign against Kosovo

Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has denied that Serbia has agreed to suspend its derecognition campaign against Kosovo.

“Serbia has not stopped the campaign of withdrawing the recognition of Kosovo, nor will it stop it if everyone else does not stop the campaign for the recognition of Kosovo,” Dacic told Tanjug agency, Radio Free Europe in Serbian (RSE) reports.

Earlier today, RSE reported that Serbia had agreed to suspend the campaign in order to “contribute to the atmosphere for the resumption of the dialogue”. The agency cited a senior EU diplomatic source.

However, Dacic said that he discussed the news with President Vucic and that it was a “big lie”.

“Serbia has been publicly saying for several years that it will stop the campaign of withdrawing recognition only if everyone else stops the campaign for the recognition of Kosovo and its membership in international organizations. As this is not the case, Serbia has not stopped campaigning to withdraw Kosovo’s recognition. When they stop, we will stop as well,” said Dacic.
