During a visit to the Orthodox Christmas celebrations of the Serbian–Montenegrin community in Shkodra, the Serbian ambassador in Tirana, Miroljub Zarić has declared today that Belgrade will never recognize the independence of Kosovo. While the EU and US are trying to broker an agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, Zarić stated:
Kosovo is Serbia, for you independent for us not. For us Kosovo is a part of the territory of Serbia and there is no possibility of accepting an alternative. It has been, is, and will be Serbia.
The ambassador continued by saying that this fact does not have to influence the relations between Albania and Serbia.
During the weekend, a Montenegrin priest had made similar comments during a mass in Vraka, Shkodra, adding that Kosovo was a “holy site” of Serbia.
