SPAK Dismisses Criminal Investigation into Vetting Judge

The Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecution (SPAK) has decided not to initiate criminal proceedings against Brunilda Bekteshi, a member of the Independent Qualification Commission (KPK), the body that vets judges and prosecutors.

Bekteshi was sued in SPAK by the association “Justice for Justice” who comprise of a number of magistrates fired by the vetting, led by prosecutor Gent Trenova.

The members of the association claim that the decisions to remove them from the system are unfair.

On June 9, they addressed the Ombudsperson to verify the selection procedure and the documentation submitted by the commissioners of both vetting levels.

According to the association, some of the commissioners of KPK and KPA do not meet the main criterion of work experience of not less than 15 years as a judge, prosecutor, lawyer, law professor, civil servant at management level or in a known experience in the field of administrative law or other areas of law.

According to SPAK, there is not enough evidence for the claims made by the association.
