The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) of Albania will launch investigations into all judges and prosecutors dismissed during the vetting process.
On Tuesday, SPAK received all vetting dossiers of the 12 former judges of the Constitutional and High Courts who were dismissed.
Sources told Exit News that investigations will be expanded into all magistrates dismissed by the vetting bodies. Prosecutors will focus on possible offences of money laundering, corruption or concealed assets.
A total of 101 magistrates were fired in Albania between February 2018 and June 2020, including 7 High Court members and 5 Constitutional Court members.
Investigation of dismissed magistrates is one of the 15 conditions set by the EU for Albania to meet before the first intergovernmental conference, which will mark the actual start of EU accession talks.
