Businessman Orest Sota, a suspect in the Habilaj–Tahiri Affair, has today been released by the Serious Crimes Appeals Court. Bail has been set at 5 million lekë.
The police in Elbasan arrested Sota in early November after finding €863,000 and boating licenses of former Minister of Interior Affairs Saimir Tahiri.
The Prosecution Office suspects that the money found in Sota’s car also belonged to Tahiri. Sota, however, claimed during his interrogation that the money was meant as a deposit for the company Kurum. Kurum, which is bankrupt, has denied any involvement with Sota.
According to Sota, the licenses had been forgotten by Tahiri’s personal driver, Gentian Ceka, who is also under investigation.
