Telekom Srbija Makes Bid for Kosovo’s Second Biggest Mobile Provider

Predominantly state-owned Serbian Telecoms company Telekom Srbija has made a bid to purchase Kosovo mobile phone company Ipko.

According to the Mayor of Pristina, Shpend Ahmeti they have made the highest bid of €155 million.

Telekom Srbija has not disclosed any detailed information, citing a non-disclosure agreement. They told Serbian news agency Tanjug that the company has ambitions to expand its business and the bid is a step towards realising it.

Ahmeti said the move should be blocked as Serbia had blocked similar bids from Albanians in the past.

IPKO is the main provider of broadband and the second-largest mobile provider in Kosovo. Fully owned by Telekom Slovenije, the Slovenian company announced they would sell it as a part of their business strategy.

The Serbian state owns 88% of the shares in Telekom Srbija. They have purchased telephone, TV, and internet operators in BiH and put in an offer for Telekom Albania to  Deutsche Telekom.
