President Hashim Thaçi has held meetings with leaders of three of the four largest parliamentary parties in Kosovo – LDK of the governing coalition, as well as opposition’s PDK and AKK. Vetëvendosje, the largest party, headed by Prime Minister Albin Kurti refused to meet Thaçi.
Thaçi hosted leader of LDK Isa Mustafa first, then PDK’s Kadri Veseli and AAK’s Ramush Haradinaj. After each meeting the president twitted that they had “constructive meetings” and agreed on the necessity of a “unified stance on matters of national interest”.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who during the last weeks has repeatedly asked Thaçi to meet and discuss Kosovo’s foreign policy, refused the president’s invitation. He said he had nothing to discuss with Thaçi on behalf on his Vetëvendosje Party, but he was ready to meet with the President in his capacity as county’s Prime Minister.
None of the leaders further clarified what topics were discussed and what conclusions were reached. Haradinaj was the only one to speak to the media: “He didn’t show any document. He just explained that they [Thaçi and Vucic in Washington] discussed chances to move forward toward a final agreement but there was no document, nothing concrete.”
Thaçi announced a press conference today at 4pm.
Update: In a press conference today focused on his meeting with party leaders, Thaçi once again repeated only that they had agreed on the necessity for a single foreign policy stance for Kosovo by all institutions.
He added that Prime Minister Albin Kurti had confirmed his meeting only to cancel it 5 minutes before the scheduled time. Thaçi said Kosovo and international partners have no time to lose dealing with anyone’s caprices, referring to Kurti’s decline to meet, and expressed his belief that they will succeed in striking an agreement nevertheless.
