There are currently no threats to the Balkans, said Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani regarding the ongoing war waged by Russia against Ukraine.
“As a NATO member, we now have intelligence, credible information, and based on that information, we should not be worried about a military conflict in the Balkans at the moment,” Osmani said.
“As an example of that information, as a NATO member, I will point out that we knew exactly what day and time the Russian invasion of Ukraine would begin. However, we are in communication with all our partners when it comes to a possible escalation of the crisis in other places, including the Balkans as a hotspot”, he added.
While Moldova and Georgia have been mentioned as other hotspots, Osmani reiterated that, “according to our information, there are currently no threats to the Balkans.”
There is a growing perception among EU member states that enlargement is becoming a security issue.
“We have always warned that this is not just a matter of political completion of this EU political project, but a matter of security consolidation of the continent,” Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani argued on Monday (7 March).
