The Hague-based Specialist Chambers of Kosovo (KSC) allowed the former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leader, Kadri Veseli to visit his father in a Kosovo hospital on Sunday.
Kosovo media reported on Sunday that Veseli’s father was hospitalized because of a brain stroke and was in serious condition.
“Due to compelling humanitarian grounds, the Pre-Trial Judge has instructed the Registry to manage a custodial visit to Kosovo to meet immediate family,” the KSC told Exit News on Monday.
“The Accused remains in pre-trial detention and in the custody of the Specialist Chambers. EULEX (EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo) and Kosovo Police are supporting the Kosovo Specialist Chambers,” they explained.
Kadri Veseli is former Speaker of Parliament and former head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). He also headed the Kosovo Intelligence Service after the war.
On November 5, 2020 Veseli gave himself in following a war crime indictment against him by the KSC.
He is charged with six counts of crimes against humanity, namely: persecution, imprisonment, other inhumane acts, torture, murder and enforced disappearance of persons; and four counts of war crimes, namely: arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and murder.
The Prosecution claims that alongside three other KLA senior figures, Hashim Thaci, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, Veseli committed the crimes from “April 1998 to August 1999” in several locations in Kosovo and northern Albania.
He has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
