The Albanian police have arrested three people for stealing and trafficking in ancient artifacts from the Apollonia Archeological Park.
49-year old A.V. from Fier, 37-year old A.V. from Tirana, and 48-year old R.Z. from Tirana, were arrested.
The Durrës police apprehended one of them during a traffic stop, after finding an ancient statue and an amphora in his vehicle.
The group sold the stolen artifacts for €18,000 to €25,000 each, mainly to buyers in Italy.
The archeological site in Apollonia has been targeted by artifact traffickers before, in 2017.
