Dozens of animal rights activists protested last week against the killing of stray dogs by the Tirana Municipality.
Gathered in front of the Tirana Municipality, activists demanded dignified treatment of street animals and not their killing as the municipality has recently done.
Concerned about the situation of the animals on the streets, they explain that the sterilization centre in Kombinat actually kills the street animals and does not sterilize them.
Activists called for the establishment of a real centre for their sterilization, treatment and shelter until after they were adopted by citizens.
Mayor Veliaj has repeatedly promised that stray dogs in Tirana will not be killed, but according to activists, that promise has not been met.
