Tirana Court Judge Brunilda Kasmi Resigns

Brunilda Kasmi, Tirana Court judge resigned today from her duties. The reason for this resignation is not known yet, but the news has been confirmed by presidential sources of the newspaper Panorama.

Kasmi would soon undergo the vetting process as she was part of a priority list of judges applying to become members of High Judicial Council (KLGj).

In 2016, Kasmi was included in the High Inspectorate of the Declaration and Audit of Assets and Conflict of Interest (ILDKPKI) list of high officials that had filed fake wealth declarations. ILDKPKI had even opened an investigation with the Prosecution for “concealment of income.”

Kasmi is the sixth judge to resign before undergoing the vetting process. The other five include:

  • Mirela Fana – Supreme Court judge, chairperson of the Council of Judicial Nominations (KED)
  • Ilir Pashaj – Elbasan Court judge
  • Drita Velaj – Kukës Court judge
  • Besnik Imeraj – Constitutional Court judge
  • Ilir Çeliku – Vlora Appeals Court judge
