Tirana International Airport has announced it will reduce passenger fares and invest in the airport’s infrastructure to help develop Albanian tourism.
On 18 December, the airport concession was bought by the Kastrati Group from Chinese company Real Fortress Limited.
The airport announced they will reduce the customer tariff from EUR 12.50 to EUR 10. This, they said will lead to a decrease in flight tickets and an increase in the number of destinations passengers can fly to.
They also announced a package of investments totalling some EUR 100 million. This will be spent on increasing the passenger capacity by 6 million per year, a runway extension, renovation of the existing infrastructure and a “significant improvement in service quality.”
Another change is the liberalisation of Ground Handling Services and the aircraft fuel market which they say will lower the cost of fuel. The statement from the airport said this will attract low-cost airlines such as Ryan Air and will result in lower ticket prices.
Kastrati Group also owns the Kukes Airport which is currently non-operational, a stake in the Porto Romano seaport, and a stake in the Albania-Kosovo highway.
