The 18th edition of the Tirana Film Festival started in Tirana last night. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the opening event was held at the Amphitheatre at the Artificial Lake of Tirana.
Agron Domi, the founder and director of the festival said that 230 films will be screened via the online TIFF platform between today and 25 September. 108 of these will compete. These include Albanian language films, live-action, animation, documentary, video art, and experimental films.
The theme of this year’s event is “Picture your life, create the future”.
Domi hopes the festival will nurture and educate audiences by showing them artistic films. It’s hoped this will spark interest with the younger generation.
The festival opened with the showing of an Albanian film “My Lake” by film director, screenwriter and producer Gjergji Xhuvani who died in August last year.
All films competing will be evaluated by seven international judges including directors, producers, writers, and critics.
TIFF was founded in 2003 and is currently the only film festival in the country. Over its 18 years, it has shown more than 30,000 short and feature films from 120 different countries.
