The Municipality of Tirana announced an impromptu car-free day for Tuesday, March 22.
Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. tomorrow, Tirana’s main boulevard will be closed off to cars and other vehicles.
This includes the segment of the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard going from the Ministry of the Interior to the former “Hotel Dajti,” and a segment of “Myslym Shyri” street going from the High Court to the boulevard.
Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj said that the decision was part of the Albanian government’s measures to save on fuel and energy.
Over the weekend, the Albanian government has announced new measures to deal with the ongoing energy crisis, including scheduled powercuts throughout the country and “off days” for the public sector in an effort to conserve power.
In addition, on Friday the government announced that all public sector workplaces, including schools and kindergartens will be closed on Monday to conserve energy.
