Tirana to Have New Logo to Celebrate 100-Year Anniversary

In honour of the 100-year anniversary of Tirana as the capital of Albania, a new logo has been chosen to celebrate.

Tirana celebrates this day on 8 February after the Congress of Lushnje proclaimed the city as the temporary capital of Albania in 1920. It acquired this status permanently on 31 December 1925.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj announced that the new logo would be chosen by means of a contest and he invited graphic designers to submit their ideas. Over 50 designs were submitted to the public contest.

On Wednesday, the four finalist logos were posted on social media and Veliaj invited citizens to vote on which one was their favourite.

“We have reached four finalists. Some are very popular names but I see some for the first time, so we thought the most democratic way to make the final selection is to put them to the public vote on our social networks.”

The logo designed by Karrota won the competition.

Over 40,000 votes were cast and the winning submission was designed by Karrota, a design studio from Prishtina, Kosovo. One of the countries most renowned studios, it is the only one in the region to have received the Golden Lion in Cannes for the creation of the ‘Newborn’ monument in Prishtina. It is also known for creating the logo for a number of Albanian brands like Wave, Z Mobile, Zog Mobile, Eat Well, Love Yourself, the Musine Kokolari Institute, and Bears Rugby.

The four finalists included submissions from Kuadr, Florian Sallo, Blerim Tuzi, and Karrota, the Musine Kokolari Institute, and Bears Rugby.

The logo will be used to advertise a number of activities that will take place in and around Tirana in honour of the anniversary.
