Torrential Rain and Flooding Bring Tirana to a Standstill

Torrential rain over the weekend caused flooding across Tirana last night. Traffic ground to a halt on some major roads that experienced some level of flooding.

In some parts of the city there were also trees that fell down due to strong winds but thankfully no one was injured.

A recurring issue for Tirana is the swelling of the River Lana that runs through the capital. At the end of the Gjergi Fishta Boulevard, water levels raised so much that it threatened to burst its banks. Many of the areas impacted by yesterday’s flooding were areas that the Municipality intervened with ‘improvement’ over the last few months.
