Dutch low-cost airline Transavia will suspend its direct service from Amsterdam to Tirana from April 2020.
After the bankruptcy of Adria Airways in September, Transavia is the second airline in a few months to interrupt direct services to an EU capital.
Transavia’s direct service was announced in April 2017 by then Dutch MFA Bert Koenders and Albanian MFA Ditmir Bushati, the first flights commencing in May.
In response to questions of the Non-stop TIA Committee, an action group that has launched a petition to request Transavia to review its decision, the airline company claimed it was no longer economically viable.
The suspension of the direct connection from Amsterdam will negatively impact Dutch tourism to Albania, which significantly increased in recent years.
It is as yet uncertain whether the connection will be moved to another Dutch airport, such as The Hague/Rotterdam or Eindhoven.
