Trump Falsely Claims He Ended a ‘400- Year’ War Between Kosovo and Serbia

The President of United States of America, Donald Trump during a campaign meeting in Nebraska said that he ended a 400- year war between Kosovo and Serbia.

During his speech, Trump said that two months ago both parties were in his office hugging and kissing each other.

“For Kosovo and Serbia- we are doing trade deals […] For many decades they kill and they fight each other all the time. I said tell them we are not going to do any business with them unless we make a deal when they stop killing each other,” Trump said.

“And you know what? It took about 20 minutes, they have been fighting for 40 years, I think they have been fighting for 400 years […] they want to make a deal, all of a sudden two months ago they’re in the Oval Office, the two Prime Ministers hugging and kissing,” Trump added.

The war between Kosovo and Serbia ended in June 1999 after NATO intervened against the Serb military forces, following failed attempts of diplomatic solutions.

The agreement signed in separate documents between Kosovo and Serbia at the White House took place on September 4, 2020, 21 years after the war ended.

Also, the agreement was not signed by two Prime Ministers as Trump states, but by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti.

This is not the first time Trump claims he stopped the war between the two Balkan countries.

On September 20, during a campaign meeting in North Carolina he stated that through the agreement he mediated, he stopped the “mass killings”.

He also repeated the statement on October 24.

During the election campaign, Trump’s special envoy for Prishtina- Belgrade dialogue Richard Grenell met the Serb community supporting Donald Trump in Wisconsin.

Last week Serb community posted pictures with Grenell in a Twitter page “Serbs for Trump” as the American presidential elections’ date is getting closer.
