Two Arrested in Lezhe for Manufacturing Fake COVID-19 Cure

Police in Lezhe have arrested two people who claimed to have produced a medicine that could cure COVID-19. They were selling the concoction for 20,000 Lek (EUR 160).

In a police operation codenamed “False Cure”, the authorities apprehended the father and nephew who had created the “artisanal” cure and were advertising it as being a cure for the virus. The police also seized the equipment and ingredients used to prepare the tincture.

Criminal charges were levied against the pair for “production and sale of food and other substances dangerous to health”, “smuggling”, “concealment of income”, and “fraud”. The police had been investigating the matter for two months before they managed to identify the individuals and ascertain their location.

The citizens had advertised the product on Facebook- a mixture of water and hydrochloric acid, claiming that they had invented a cure for the virus. The nephew was caught red-handed, selling the product to a customer in a bar.

Found in an apartment belonging to one of the accused was medical devices that did not have a tax invoice. It is believed they were smuggled into the country.
