Over the weekend, Albanian police arrested two individuals for threatening and violently assaulting their domestic partners.
In Diber, police arrested a 46-year-old man and confiscated an automatic firearm and 18 bullets. They acted on reports of the man being violent towards his wife. Authorities said he had threatened to kill her with the gun.
He is being charged with illegal possession of weapons and domestic violence.
In Vlore, a 58-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence and for threatening his wife with a sharp weapon. He has been charged with domestic violence.
Albania has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Europe, with more than half of women and girls experiencing at least one form of violence, at least once in their lives.
