Two Company Employees Charged over Water Contamination in Kosovo

A prosecutor in Kosovo has charged two employees of a water supply company for the contamination of water in Deçan in July last year that left more than 15,000 poisoned. They will face charges of “failing to avoid risks,’ prosecutor Durjan Juniku announced on Monday.

He clarified that suspicions on a possible involvement of two Serb nationals in water poisoning were found to be unfounded.

The prosecutor claims that the poisoning was a result of irregular water disinfection with chlorine and related tests.

More than 1,500 people in Deçan felt sick in mid-July last year raising suspicions of water contamination. Kosovo authorities found the water to be infected with E.coli and other bacteria and declared it undrinkable.
