The U.S. Embassy opened calls for project applications for the AFCP last year, and Albanian was granted the maximum amount of about $800,000.
Buildings and walls of castles in the three cities chosen were damaged at varying degree by the devastating November earthquake that left 51 dead. The Durres castle was built in the 5th century, and the Kruja and Preza castles date back to the 15th century.
