Three cases with new COVID-19 variant originating in the United Kingdom are confirmed in Kosovo.
The news was announced from the acting Minister of Health, Armend Zemaj during a press conference on Friday.
Zemaj said that these new cases were detected after 30 samples were sent in Germany for analysis.
“The results of these analyzes have shown that three samples have tested positive with the British variant B117,” Zemaj told media.
Kosovo does not have the capacity to detect the new variant of COVID-19.
“You know that this variant was reported for the first time on December 14, 2020 and we as the Republic of Kosovo immediately took measures by suspending all flights with this country,” Zemaj said.
The new variant has now spread to many parts of the world. Preliminary tests have shown that it can spread more easily and can be more deadly.
Kosovo has reported five COVID- 19 related deaths on Friday, 342 new cases and 235 people recovered.
There are currently 6,211 active cases in the country.
