The State Market Surveillance Inspectorate (ISHMT) has seized about 2,000 toys that are considered a health risk to children, in an operation carried out this week in Tirana.
The toys were mainly water-based such as inflatables, and, according to ISHMT, were produced outside the standards necessary to stay on the market.
“Inspection troops from the checks carried out in the capital blocked 21 different items or about 2,000 children’s toys, mostly water-based. Prohibited items present a potential chemical risk due to the high content of phthalates, physical risk causing suffocation, cuts, or injury to children,” the announcement said.
ISHMT called for consumers to be careful when choosing children’s toys. CE letters must be affixed to each product and not removed and the dimensions of the logo must be no smaller than 5mm.
