US Ambassador Yuri Kim met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama today. They discussed “recent events” in Albania, and both agreed that it is essential for the country to move forward with the electoral reform.

Kim stressed the importance of inclusiveness and due deliberation in governance.
Ambassador Kim will also meet with Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha soon, even though Basha has hinted that the opposition may abandon electoral reform talks following the demolition of the National Theater, which he interpreted as the government showing its unwillingness for reforms and progress.
Whilst Ambassador Kim’s statement failed to even mention the National Theatre, the EU Delegation earlier expressed their regret for the lack of dialogue before the demolition.
