US Ex-Vice President Mike Pence to Visit Tirana

Former US vice president Mike Pence is set to visit the Albanian capital of Tirana on Thursday (23 June), according to the chairman of the ruling Socialist Party parliamentary group Taulant Balla.

A member of the conservative Republican Party and vice president to former president Donald Trump, he is scheduled to meet with senior Albanian officials.

The reason for his trip has not been revealed.

Just this week, right-wing commentator Jordan Peterson visited Tirana and met with socialist Mayor Erion Veliaj as well as visiting various communist history museums.

In May, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, another Trump appointee, was in Tirana to celebrate the centenary of US-Albanian diplomatic relations. He also participated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the gasification of Albania.

Currently, the United States House of Representatives is investigating Trump’s ties to the 6 January attacks on the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential elections.
