Vetting Commission Dismisses Head of Lushnja Prosecution Office

The Independent Qualification Commission (KPK) dismissed the Head of the Lushnja Prosecution Office, Çlirim Shahini, on grounds of assets and background issues.

The vetting commission found that prosecutor Shahini could not present legitimate sources for the construction of a two-story house in Saranda. Shahini had also failed to declare a EUR 2,000 loan received from the company building his house. He defended himself saying that the house was used only occasionally by family members, however the KPK had found that it was actually rented out on Internet as a vocation home during the summer. The prosecutor had also failed to pay taxes for the rental income.

The National Security Agency’s (DSIK) report found Mr Shahini unsuitable to continue exercising his duty as prosecutor on grounds of his past relationship with a person convicted for drug trafficking and illegal border crossing.
