Vetting Dismisses Judge for ‘Forgetting’ to Declare Assets

The Independent Qualification Commission dismissed Tirana Appeals Judge Shkelqim Mustafa yesterday.

On the panel was Roland Ilia, Valbona Sanxhaktari and Genta Tafa Bungo. They raised doubts over the ownership of an apartment that had not been declared. The judge said he had forgotten to declare it for three years.

The Commission also found he failed to declare a Mercedes Benz purchased for EUR 35,000. They argued that he did not have sufficient income to justify the purchase of the vehicle.

Mustafa started his career in the justice system in 1995 as a prosecutor in Gjirokastra, a position he held until 1998. in the same year, he became a judge in the Gjirokaster Judicial District Court where he remained until 2010. He was then transferred to the Court of Tirana before moving to the Court of Appeals in 2013.
