Yesterday, the Independent Qualification Commission (KPK) dismissed Durrës Appeals prosecutor Bujar Hoti for being unable to justify his wealth.
The KPK judicial body, made up of Lulzim Hamitaj, Brunilda Bekteshi, and Olsi Komici, came to the conclusion that Hoti’s wealth declarations were inaccurate, and he did not have sufficient legal income sources to justify his wealth.
KPK’s administrative investigation found that Hoti had inaccurately declared two apartments, failed to declare the expansion of an apartment owned by his wife, and has received a plot of land in Durrës, that he wasn’t legally entitled to.
During the September 6 hearing, International Monitoring Operation (ONM) representative Theo Jacobs challenged Hoti, telling him:
You have managed to make incredibly complicated procedures out of simple economic activities. Isn’t it time to finally tell the truth?
Hoti was competing for a seat on the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP).
Other prosecutors who are part of a priority vetting list as candidates for KLP include Ramadan Troci, Shpëtim Kurti, and Besnik Cani. However, KPK has yet to make the dates of their hearings public.
