The following video shows the demolition of the symbolic facade of one of the two buildings of the National Theatre in Albania.
The video was shot from the Ministry of Interior building.
Hundreds of police forces surrounded the theater building around 04:30 on Sunday morning, forcibly removed dozens of citizens sitting in front of the theater, and cordoned off the area. Resisting citizens were detained.
The demolition operation started immediately.
Since 2018, artists and citizens have staged the longest active protest in the history of Albania to protect the theatre from demolition by the Rama government.
The government moved in amidst the emergency situation and lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus crisis.
