The week ahead is set to see significant downpours across Albania according to a forecast from the Institute of Geosciences and the Military Meteorological Service who called on municipalities to be prepared.
The warning was issued for significant rainfall leading to flooding and landslides in Lezhe, Kukes, Diber, Durres, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Vlore, and Gjirokaster, as well as Lake Shkoder, Drini i Lezhe, and the Drin-Buna river.
“The Civil Protection Agency asks the local government structures to take the necessary measures for the continuous control of drainage canal systems, to constantly monitor the condition of river embankments, water catchment dams and catastrophic dischargers, to check the functionality of hydrovores as well as to keep the logistical capacities and human resources of the operational forces ready to deal with any possible situation” – the announcement states.
