Which Restrictions Will and Won’t be Lifted on 1 June

After almost three months of lockdown, on 1 June, most COVID-19 measures will be lifted throughout Albania.

Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the country would be open and citizens would be free to move. Yesterday, Health Minister Ogerta Manastriliu clarified the situation.

Activities that are allowed from 1 June:

  • Time restrictions and permits are lifted for all citizens and businesses
  • Vehicles can move freely at any time;
  • Removal of the “red zone” designation;
  • Land borders are open without the requirement to self-isolate, except in ‘necessary cases’;
  • Private hotel beaches will open on 1 June, and on 6 June beaches will be open to all citizens;
  • Kindergartens and nurseries will open;
  • Gaming centres, gyms, and internet cafes will open;
  • Sports activities without spectators will be allowed;
  • Professional, educational and entertainment courses will be allowed;
  • Employment courses will be allowed.

Activities that remain prohibited and closed until at least 23 June are:

  • Night clubs;
  • Swimming pools;
  • Theatre and cinema;
  • Events and conferences;
  • Weddings, funerals, and other major events.
