Every year during the General Assembly of the UN in New York, the US President hosts an official dinner for all the heads of state or government present at the deliberations of the the Assembly.
It has now become a tradition that at the end of this dinner, the US President and First Lady pose for a courtesy picture with the heads of state or government and their spouses, who wait in line for their turn to take a picture.
All Albanian leaders have made such pictures with US Presidents over the past years. In 2011, the Berishas, in 2012 and 2016 the Nishanis, and in 2015 the Ramas were photographed with the Obamas after the dinner. The Berishas also took a picture, earlier with the Bush couple.
This year Prime Minister Edi Rama and his wife Linda Rama will be present at the UN General Assembly, and therefore automatically invited at the US Presidential dinner organized by President Donald Trump. As is the tradition, the photograph will conclude the event.
Or were Prime Minister Edi Rama’s comments on US television against Trump during the US electoral campaign enough for his staff to exclude him from this ritual? In any case, the absence or presence of a picture showing the Trumps and Ramas side by side will give us some indication of the damage Prime Minister Rama has managed to inflict on relations with the White House.
