Croatia Hit by Strong Earthquake

The capital of Croatia, Zagreb was hit by a magnitude 5.3 earthquake and two aftershocks this morning at 6.24am local time. No deaths have been reported so far. The earthquake epicenter was 9km from Zagreb.

The government said experts are working to assess the number of people injured and damage caused. Several old buildings and churches throughout the city have been reported as damaged.

The earthquake comes amidst the coronavirus epidemic in the country, where 235 people have tested positive as of Sunday.

The army will be deployed to help the quake-hit areas.
