200,000 COVID Vaccines Heading for Albania and North Macedonia

Some 200,000 COVID-19 vaccines are heading for Albania and North Macedonia as a part of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

The delivery comes following requests from both governments for assistance in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Greece has offered 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca for each country.

Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarčič said: “I thank Greece for its offer to its neighboring countries.  We see here yet another example of the swift coordination done by the European Civil Protection Mechanism that has proved to be crucial in supporting countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Albania is currently using Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, and Sputnik V. Vaccination is currently open to Albanian citizens and residents with a permit who are over 50 years old.

So far, more than 900,000 people have been vaccinated in the country, 300,000 of which are fully immunized with both doses.
