In the last 4 days, 8 people have died and 12 others were wounded as a result of accidents on the road, the beach, or crime.
July 17
- An 18-year-old man dies after being hit by a car on Don Bosko road in Tirana;
- One person dies and a child got wounded in an accident on the highway Levan–Tepelena;
- Three cars involved in an accident on the road Elbasan–Tirana;
- A jeweler got shot in Tirana by a person who is assumed to have had the intention to rob his shop;
July 16
- An 87-year-old man dies after being hit by a car in Derviçan, Gjirokastra;
- One person dies and 6 others are wounded in a triple accident on the road Lezha–Shkodra;
- A 60-year-old man dies from being hit by a train in the train station of Durrës;
July 15
- Three youths of 24, 25, and 27 drown near the beach of Zvërnec;
- A 14-year-old child drowns near the beach of Vlora;
- A woman of 25 and two men of 32 and 59 are shot in Shkodra.
According to the Director of the Traffic Police, Mit’hat Tola, the cause of the accidents has been the high volume of traffic on the roads because of the tourist season and violation of the traffic regulations.
As regards the youths who drowned in Zvërnec, state officials including Prime Minister Edi Rama have declared that this particular beach was not approved by the state as a location that was safe for tourists. Nevertheless, the site didn’t feature signs to warn citizens for the dangerous waters.
