Opposition leader Lulzim Basha has promised to lift the toll for the highway connecting Albanian with Kosovo.
Basha visited Kosovo on Monday, where he had meetings with the highest authorities in the country.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, Basha promised to lift the toll for the highway as soon as he becomes prime minister.
The highway is operated by a private company, who won a controversial 30-year concession contract, and charges private cars 5 euro each way.
Basha did not clarify his plan to lift the toll imposed by the private company.
In his visit during crucial times for Kosovo, Basha applauded President Hashim Thaci’s insistent calls for political unity in Kosovo during this period, and stressed the necessity for an US-EU partnership in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
He praised Prime Minister Hoti’s leadership in resuming the dialogue with Serbia.
In his meeting with Speaker of Parliament Vjosa Osmani, Basha stated that dialogue with Serbia with the final objective of mutual recognition is the only path forward. Osmani stressed the need for opposing any idea of land swaps with Serbia, and for establishing closer partnership with Albania, particularly in economy and international relations.
Basha also met with former Prime Minister Albin Kurti of Vetevendosje, with whom they agreed on the need for both governments to coordinate the fights against the coronavirus pandemic, as well as develop concrete projects.
Basha stressed his party’s opposition against land swaps, and the need for mutual recognition at the end of the dialogue with Serbia.
The Albanian opposition leader also met with former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and NISMA leader Fatmir Limaj.
