IPH: COVID-19 Variant Is in Albania, but We Don’t Know Which One
The deputy director of the Institute of Public Health, Dritan Ulqinaku, stated on Wednesday that a Covid-19 mutation is circulating in the country, but it has not been possible to determine which variant. In an interview for Euronews Albania, Ulqinaku said:

“It is a different virus, it is a coronavirus, but different from the coronavirus that has circulated so far in our country. But we are not yet able to say whether it is from Brazil, or South Africa or England.”

Meanwhile, a day ago, the Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu stated that in Albania no one has been found infected with the new variant of Covid-19.

Also, earlier IPH executives have publicly acknowledged that there is no laboratory to detect the new variants of the virus. The IPH said they would be sending some samples to the UK for testing. But to date, there has been no information on whether this actually happened, or what the result was.
