About 600 doctors and nurses have received one of the two COVID-19 vaccine shots in Albania, but the court has not enough doses for the second shot.
Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu announced the news on Thursday in parliament.
The government launched the vaccination campaign on January 11 relying on 975 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine donated by an undisclosed country. Only 375 doses are remaining for the second shot on the 600 medical staff.
It expected 10,750 more doses to be delivered last week according to a contract with the company, but failed to receive any.
The administration of the second dose was planned to start on February 2. It should be received 2-3 weeks after the first shot.
While the delivery time for the order remains uncertain, so is the second shot for hundreds of medical staff.
Manastirliu said they are in talks with European countries to get the necessary doses.
On January 15, Pfizer announced delays in the delivery of orders due to work to increase vaccine production capacity.
