Nora Gjakova, a Kosovo judoka, has won the gold medal for Judo in Women’s 57 kg category, after defeating French athlete Sarah-Léonie Cysique on Monday.
This is Kosovo’s second medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and third overall since it began competing as an independent country in 2016. On Saturday, Distria Krasniqi won a gold medal in judo in Women’s 48 kg.
Gjakova’s twin brother, Ali Gjakova, is also a judoka and part of Kosovo’s Olympic team.
At the 2020 Olympics, Kosovo is being represented by 11 athletes who will be competing in six sports.
Kosovo received its first Olympic medal in Rio 2016—also its first ever Olympics as an independent country—when Majlinda Klemendi won gold in Women’s Judo.
